Now I seem to be a sucker for a good zombie book, and I like to think that I know good ones from bad. The Walking Dead: Rise of The Governor is a good one, I mean great one, possibly one of the best zombie stories I have ever listened to. Pure, unadulterated, original, breathtaking and enough surprises to keep you guessing. However I have never read any of the graphic novels, so if there was any tie in, I was clueless.

They story follows a ragtag bunch Nick, brothers Brain and Phillip and Phillip’s daughter Penny, as they try to survive the “plague”. When the story starts the “Plague” is already in full force with zombies everywhere and very few humans. A majority of the story is the groups journey to Atlanta and their stay there. At some points I was sure I knew what was going to happen only to be surprised.

This is so much more than just another zombie book. The Walking Dead: Rise of The Governor is more of a study of the deterioration of the mind when societal norm is thrown out the window. Breaking down human nature to kill or be killed.

I have heard the remarks that some basic facts were incorrect, but really I don’t care if the model of a truck or the types of bullets used were incorrect. For me this takes nothing away from the truly entertaining story.

Narrator Review

My first impression once I started listening was, “I can’t stand the narrator’s voice”, by the end of the book I felt Fred Burman’s voice was the only voice that could have done this book any justice.
